Fall is the best time for planting trees because the weather conditions allow for the roots to get established during the rainy season and before spring top growth occurs.

We recommend planting 5 gallon size container trees because they establish quicker and grow faster then larger trees. They are also less expensive and easier to plant. For example a 5 gallon and 15 gallon tree planted at the same time will on average be the same size in 3 years. After that, the 5 gallon tree will get larger faster then the 15 gallon tree.
It is a common myth that anybody can plant a tree, but in reality trees have to be planted correctly or they will not thrive. Most people dig a hole way to deep which also encourages planting the tree to deep. The planting hole should be dug no deeper then the height of the rootball minus a couple inches and 3 times as wide as the rootball. It is only backfill the hole with parent soil and to not amend it with other topsoils. Be sure to remove the nursery stake that comes with the tree and side-stake it to allow the tree movement in the wind

Are your trees storm ready?

With the storm season approaching it is a good time to look at the structure of your trees. Limbs that are heavy, especially over targets such as, a home or driveway, etc. should have weight removed to reduce the possibility of failure.

Trees should be inspected by a certified arborist for other potential defects that could endanger people and structures.

Don't let this happen to you.

AIR-SPADE - The Premier Hand-held Supersonic Air-Jet Digging Tool

Up A Tree Arborist Services is now offering a new service-Air Spade

The Air Spade is a tool that uses supersonic compressed air to perform the following:

  • Root collar excavation -used to examine the structured integrity of a tree roots system and root ball

  • Plant aeration and soil compaction relief; also amending the soil with compost to improve the health of stressed trees.

  • Bare-rooting and transplanting small to medium sized trees (up to 4" trunks)

  • For new construction or remodels:

- locating roots to lessen construction impact.

- root pruning to reduce impact to tree health

- tunneling under roots, for running utilities through root zone, to

reduce damage of cutting tree roots.

The health and structure of the tree underground is often ignored when it comes to tree care. The root system of a tree is just as important to the overall well being of the tree as the stems and leaves above ground. Because a trees root system and the soil around it is not easily investigated, these aspects of tree health are often overlooked and not addressed by the arborist.
